Stockport named among best places in the UK for cosy pubs
By Alasdair Perry 1st May 2026
Stockport is one of the best places in the UK for pub-goers.
That's according to a new study by Non-GamStop-Betting.com which ranked pubs and pub towns across the country, giving them an overall 'cosiness' score.
The cosiness score was determined by factors such as the number of pubs with fireplaces, the number which showed sports, and more.
Stockport placed at number nine overall on the list, with a cosiness score of 68.27 percent.
There were found to be 13.37 pubs with fireplaces in the area per 100,000 residents.
The compilers of the list singled out the Olde Vic and the Chiverton Tap as particular highlights.
Taking the top three spots were Gateshead, Blackburn and High Wycombe at first, second and third respectively.
Nick Harris, author of Non-GamStop-Betting.com, said: "Larger urban areas tend to have busier nightlife scenes and higher-density venues, which can mean fewer traditional and 'cosy' pubs.
"Ultimately, this data shows that when it comes to the perfect bank holiday pub, it's the mid-sized towns with strong local identity and traditional venues that deliver the best overall experience.
"They combine atmosphere, comfort, and sport in a way that bigger cities can struggle to match."
This accolade comes just a few weeks after Stockport was named among the top 10 pub towns in England in a separate ranking by The Telegraph.
