The top six pubs in Stockport, according to Stockport Nub News readers
By Alasdair Perry 22nd Mar 2026
Stockport is spoiled for choice when it comes to pubs, from quaint country freehouses to trendy town centre hotspots.
With so much choice, we asked readers around the borough to name their favourites on social media.
We then counted up the comments for each one (and the number of likes each comment had, factoring in any double votes) to arrive at the following list.
Saints Club - 14 votes

This independent bar opened in May 2025 and has clearly already made a name for itself among Stockport residents.
There is a wall featuring about a dozen taps for keg and membrane beers, plus a T-bar for more options.
You can find Saints Club at 22 St Petersgate in Stockport town centre.
The Bakers Vaults - 15 votes

This Market Place mainstay ties the number four spot.
This Robinsons pub sits in a grade-II listed building in the historic heart of Stockport town centre.
It's renowned for its award-winning drinks range and quirky jukebox.
You can find The Bakers Vaults at Market Place in Stockport town centre.
The Wobbly Stamp - 15 votes

This former post office in Cheadle has placed at joint fourth.
It's popular for its craft Ales, continental lagers, ciders, fine wines and spirits.
It also features a wonderfully cosy layout with a garden, and regularly plays host to live musicians.
You can find The Wobbly Stamp at 130 Stockport Rd, Cheadle.
The Arden Arms - 17 votes

At number three is The Arden Arms, a Robinsons pub described as "Stockport's original multi-award-winning ale shrine."
It's been a spot for locals for the last 200 years, and clearly continues to be as popular as ever.
You can find The Arden Arms at 23 Millgate in Stockport town centre.
The Crown Inn - 20 votes

The Crown Inn, a historic Stockport pub nestled under the Viaduct, takes the number two spot.
After closing temporarily, the pub re-opened on 15 August 2025 with a revitalised exterior and interior.
It's being headed by ew operators, Alan and Chris Gent, who also run the award-winning Petersgate Tap a short stroll away in Stockport town centre.
There is a wide choice of cask and keg beers, continuing the pub's strong history of championing quality beers and breweries.
The Magnet - 31 votes

It's The Magnet that was named best pub in Stockport in our readers' poll.
This accolade is just one among a string of wins for this A6 pub.
In 2024, it was praised by reviewers at National Geographic, who placed it among the 12 best pubs in the UK, saying: "If everyone had a neighbourhood local like this, the world would be a better place".
The Magnet also stood out to participants in CAMRA's 2025 Mild Magic Trail, who voted it the best mild pub in the area, admiring its menu of constantly changing milds.
Commenting on their win, The Magnet team said: "Thank you everybody for voting for us!
"We are so happy to be part of Stockport's thriving community for 16 years and counting."
