Steam fans are in for a treat this Saturday, as a historic locomotive passes through Stockport.

'The Mancunian' - a special charter train - will leave London Euston at 7.10am on the morning of Saturday 21 October. It will be pulled by the 45596 Bahamas, calling at Watford Junction, Milton Keynes Central, Northampton, Rugby and Nuneaton, before terminating at Manchester Piccadilly.

Although the train does not stop at Stockport station, it will soar over the viaduct on its way to Manchester, creating a spectacle which would not look out of place 70 years ago.

With an arrival time at Manchester Piccadilly scheduled for 1.11pm, viewers should expect to see the locomotive head through Stockport a little before 1pm.

The 45596 Bahamas was built in 1934 in Glasgow, designed by William Stanier. It was withdrawn from the rail network in 1966.
