A Stockport dad is taking on a remarkable fundraising challenge in aid of the hospital which helped cure his daughter's brain tumour.

Pete Harding, a builder from Offerton, will be walking 68 miles with the drum of a cement mixer on his back, while pushing a wheelbarrow filled with sandbags.

He's hoping to raise as much money as possible for Sheffield Children's Hospital, where his brave daughter Emily was treated after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2025.

Pete will be setting off from Louth in Lincolnshire (Emily's hometown) and walking the entire distance to the hospital in Sheffield, aiming to cover 15 miles per day for four days, then taking on the final eight-mile hilly stretch on the last day. All while carrying the mixer and the laden wheelbarrow.

In view of his carrying kit, he's been calling the challenge a 'Barrowthon'.

"It's dawning on me just how much of a challenge it's going to be", Pete said. "But it should be something hard to reflect what Emily went through."

He said he's been 'training hard', by regularly going to the gym and walking with the full kit. But he added it's still going to be 'some undertaking'.

Emily was diagnosed with the tumour in 2025, and underwent surgery for nine and a half hours.

The surgery was successful and Emily is recovering - remarkably, she also finished her GCSEs this year, in an amazing display of resilience.
