A man who was stood on top of Stockport Viaduct has been brought to safety.

On Thursday 1 August, emergency services were called to reports of a man on top of Stockport Viaduct.

After crews arrived at the scene, the man removed himself from the top of the viaduct and back to safety.

The viaduct was closed to all trains between Stockport and Manchester until the man was brought down. Similarly, the M60 was closed in both directions, causing delays on the surrounding roads.

After a few hours, the roads cleared, and public transport resumed its services.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Just before 4pm this afternoon (Thursday 1st August), two fire engines from Whitehill and Offerton fire station, along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton, were called to reports of a man on top of the viaduct above the M60 in Stockport .

"Crews arrived quickly at the scene. The man removed himself from on top of the viaduct and back to safety.

"Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour and ten minutes."
