An inquest at South Manchester Coroners Service into the unidentified remains of a baby boy has reached an 'open conclusion'.

This means that there is insufficient evidence to reach a definite conclusion, and that the case will be left open should further evidence come to light.

The remains were found in March, in a semi-detached property on Berwick Avenue in Heaton Mersey.

The family at the address discovered a suitcase in the attic which contained the remains.

Coroner Alison Mutch suggested the skeletal remains could date back to as early as 1959. She said that the remains belonged to an 'infant' but could not be more specific.
