Stockport is the best commuter town around Manchester.

That's according to property website Rightmove, which produced a ranking of different locations around the city based on buyer demand.

Stockport was 'by far' the most popular spot, with a whopping 76 percent more enquiries per property than Manchester.

It also scored highly for the fast and regular train services to the city centre.

"Its town centre has undergone significant regeneration in recent years, with the redevelopment of the Underbanks and the Stockport Exchange business district drawing in new residents and businesses", Rightmove researchers said.

"The Peak District is close by, with easy access to walking and cycling routes, while Stockport Market and its independent food and drink scene have gained traction.

"With such a short commute into central Manchester, it's easy to see why buyers are looking here."

Rightmove covered a similar topic in July this year, when they ranked the most popular commuter towns nationally.

Stockport scored highly in that list, too, but it's in this Manchester-specific one - published on 1 September - that it has shone more prominently.

Other high scorers on the list were Rochdale, Warrington, Preston and Lancashire, which came in at second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.
