Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) are currently offering places on a series of beginner to intermediate cycling courses in June.

Topics range from bike maintenance to complete beginner training, so there is something for everyone.

Most courses take place at the Seashell Trust, Heald Green. At this venue, group sessions for complete beginners are available, as well as a 'confidence-building' course for slightly more advanced riders.

The complete beginner session is free and will be guided by two qualified instructors. It will involve an introduction to: bike and safety equipment, mounting and dismounting, scooting and braking, pedal ready and go, stopping safely, and directing the bike.

This course is for anybody aged 12 or over. All ages are welcome - it is never too late to learn, and instructors understand that some are taught growing up and others are not.

The confidence-building session lasts two hours, and is also free. According to the relevant TfGM page: "This two hour group session is for you if you can ride a bike a little bit but would like to develop your confidence and skills in readiness for doing more riding.

"Our instructors will support you through the following: making the bike go where you want it to with more accuracy; observation and signalling; emergency stopping; use of gears to helop make riding easier; riding with other people; riding in public spaces - care and attention for others, and anticipation."

Maintenance courses will also run at CERA Cycloan in the town centre on Swallow Street. Both basic and intermediate maintenance lessons are available, costing £10 and £30 respectively.

At the basic course, according to TfGM, a bike maintenance expert will lead "a small group with other beginners in a friendly, supportive atmosphere".

"It's a hands-on session which will give you the confidence and skills to keep your bike on the move. It's best to bring your own bike to work on, but we can lend you one if necessary.

"The sessions last two hours and are held across Greater Manchester."

The intermediate course is similar, only the work is more intensive, the group is more experienced collectively and the session lasts six hours.

Dates, as well as booking opportunities and spaces can be found below.

Other services including one-on-one sessions can be found across Greater Manchester.
