Crime statistics from the Neighbourhood Watch reveal that theft and vehicle crime account for most incidents across the borough, with burglary and shoplifting also contributing.

The organisation collects crime data from police forces across the Stockport area each week, although the latest data for each area varies.

According to the most recent statistics, Bramhall and Offerton/Stepping Hill/Hazel Grove saw the highest proportion of burglaries, although maintained a comparatively low number of incidents. The town centre saw the most incidents, whilst Marple reported only one.

The average is 11 incidents per area per week, with the 'central beats' reporting the highest average (20) and Hazel Grove and Marple the lowest (four).

Latest data for the 'central beats' comes from 8-14 May 2023.

  • In the Town Centre there were 29 incidents, the bulk of which were theft-related - four involved burglary and three involved shoplifting, with other incidents relating to theft of possessions, motor vehicles, and damage to vehicles. There was also a robbery at William Hill, Bridgefield Street.
  • Cheadle Heath, Adswood and Edgeley collectively saw 24 cases. Five burglaries and five shoplifting incidents took place, with theft and motor vehicle damage accounting for other incidents.
  • Brinnington and Lancashire Hill saw seven incidents: three item thefts, two thefts from a motor vehicle and two burglaries.

Latest data for the Heatons and Reddish comes from 27 March to 2 April.

  • In the Heatons there were five assorted thefts, one attempted burglary and four vehicle-related offences - one involving damage and the others involving theft from vehicles.
  • In Reddish there were nine incidents, two thirds of which were vehicle crime, with three vehicles being stolen, one damaged and another two stolen from. In this period there was also a burglary and two thefts.

Latest data for Bramhall and Cheadle comes from 27 March to 2 April.

  • In Cheadle Hulme and Heald Green, there were three thefts, two attempted burglaries and four incidents of vehicle crime - two thefts of vehicles and two from vehicles.
  • In Cheadle and Gatley the same sorts of incidents occurred in a similar ratio. Only five were reported, however, as opposed to Cheadle Hulme and Heald Green's nine.
  • In Bramhall, five out of seven incidents were related to burglary, with four residential and one attempted. The other two incidents involved thefts from vehicles.

Latest data for Hazel Grove and Marple comes from 24 April to 30 April.

  • In Werneth, there was one residential burglary, one vehicle offence and one robbery.
  • In Marple, there was only one vehicle offence in this week.
  • In Offerton/Stepping Hill/Hazel Grove, there were five residential burglaries and two vehicle offences.
