The stunning Stockport walks inspired by a classic book
It's good news for walkers in Stockport, as a new set of free guided trail leaflets have been published for strolls around Strines, Marple and High Lane.
Local community groups have researched and devised 10 new walking trails around the area, inspired by Edith Nesbit's 1906 classic, The Railway Children.
Many believe it was this rolling patch of northern countryside that provided the inspiration for the novel, and the trails have been devised with this in mind.
There are a variety of walks to choose from, with different sights and finishing points.
Some take in sections of the Peak Forest Canal, others take in dramatic views from Mellor.
Walkers can also choose where to finish - whether they return to Strines Station or in Marple, which has toilet facilities and a range of shops, cafes and eateries nearby.
Simon Temple, Chair of South East Manchester Community Rail Partnership, said: "It's fantastic to see a renewed interest in Edith Nesbit's classic story thanks to the popularity of 2022's The Railway Children Return which has introduced a new generation to the series and got people reminiscing about the original.
"We hope walkers and families enjoy discovering or rediscovering these beautiful spots that are easily accessible from the rail line".
The Friends of Strines Station have installed leaflet holders which visitors can collect upon arrival at the station.
Alternatively, leaflets can be downloaded from the South East Manchester Community Rail Partnership website HERE.
