The Manchester Marathon - how will it affect Stockport?

The Manchester Marathon takes place this weekend on Sunday 14 April.
Touted as Europe's fourth largest running event, it is expected to bring 32,000 participants from far and wide, and still more spectators.
Although the Marathon takes place to the west of Stockport in Sale and Altrincham, there are still a few things to bear in mind for us in SK.
For one, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has issued a 'travel smart' message.
Due to expected travel disruption, TfGM advised people nearby to "leave the car at home", and try where possible to use either trams or park and rides.
Roads and public transport on the day are expected to be "very busy" before, during and after the race.
This includes "significant road closures", as well as bus diversions.
As a TfGM spokesperson said: "Even those not directly impacted by the marathon closures could still be affected by displaced traffic and congestion."
Still, for the most part, the closures will be centred around South West Manchester - Old Trafford, Sale, Timperley and Altrincham.

On a less administrative note, there will be runners from across Stockport taking part, raising money for local causes and charities, including St Ann's Hospice in Heald Green.
