Team members at Stepping Hill hospital have proved that Stockport is ahead of the curve when it comes to medical research nationally.
The Research and Innovation team at Stockport NHS Trust has recruited 2,100 patient volunteers, meaning research can continue in earnest at the hospital.
Patient volunteers, as described by the Royal College of Physicians, "are a mix of healthy volunteers and patients with actual signs and symptoms that participate in medical exams where students will clinically examine the volunteer".
The team at Stepping Hill were set a recruitment target of 2,000 by the National Institute of Health and Care Research, which they exceed by 100.
Speaking of the team, a Stockport NHS spokesperson said: "They have worked with healthcare professionals across the trust, offering enrolment opportunities in over 80 different studies across 20 different specialties, including anaesthetics, cardiology, children, gastroenterology, rheumatology, reproductive health and emergencies.
"They also recruited in the field of frailty and ageing, a new area for the team. These increasing number of studies have helped to make Stepping Hill Hospital a key clinical research site in the Greater Manchester area.
"The team has thanked all its many volunteers for taking part, and helping to improve treatment and care for all in the future."
