A former pub in Cheadle Hulme is set to finally reopen as it is turned into an Italian restaurant.

The Hesketh on Hulme Hall Road will become part of Italian food chain Pesto after a planning application to transform the empty building was granted.

Work can now begin to turn the site into the new eatery, with plans to remove the existing astroturf and play area, extend the rear stone terrace, and resurface and alter the car park layout as part of the revamp.

‘Considerable inconvenience’ - what to expect from upcoming Armoury roundabout repair works

Essential repair work will begin on the Armoury roundabout as it reaches its ‘natural lifespan’ (Image - Alasdair Perry)

Considerable disruption is expected in Stockport when essential repairs to the Armoury roundabout bridge are carried out.

Network Rail is due to begin repair work in January 2025, as the bridge 'reaches the end of its natural working life'. Road closures could be in place from late 2024.

The work is likely to impact both traffic and pedestrian travel across the borough, and could last as long as nine months. During that time, people may have to use residential streets to get across the railway line and around the borough.

Plans to close hundreds of ticket offices across the country have been withdrawn following widespread public backlash.

The proposals were brought forward by train operators. The Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed that it has asked these operators to withdraw their plans.

With the proposals scrapped, ticket offices at the following Stockport stations have been saved: Bramhall, Bredbury, Brinnington, Cheadle Hulme, Davenport, Gatley, Hazel Grove, Heaton Chapel, Marple, Reddish North, Romiley, Rose Hill, Stockport and Woodsmoor.

Transport Focus said it had received over 750,000 responses from individuals and organisations in a public consultation.

99% of these responses were objections, according to the passenger watchdogs.
