Plans to build a new storage facility on Earl Road could be approved at a planning committee on Thursday (9 November).

The proposals would see the construction of a four-floor self-storage facility on Stanley Green trading estate - near Cheadle Hulme and Handforth - suitable for both commercial and residential use.

The new facility would aim to replace the former Armadillo self-storage site, which sustained fire damage in February 2022 and was subsequently demolished.

The planning statement argues that the new building would be "a significant improvement on that of the building which preceded it", in terms of design, sustainability and energy efficiency.

On the subject of the new building's appearance, the statement says it will be 'modern' and 'contemporary', adding: "The proposed building will be no more visible from the surrounding area than other buildings locally, including existing buildings."

The planning application also argues that the new storage facility would create jobs, regenerate a brownfield site, and produce 'economic investment and economic stimulus'.

A decision will be made on the plans in the Stockport Council Planning and Highways Regulation Committee later this week.
