A Stockport couple is celebrating their 60-year wedding anniversary with a remarkable fundraising challenge.

Keith and Jeanette Mills met in Sheffield as university students in 1961, and now live happily in Great Moor.

To celebrate their diamond anniversary, Keith will be walking the 32 miles from where he and Jeanette met in Sheffield to their home, over the course of three days.

He'll be raising money in the process, which will go towards Forever Friends of Uganda (FFoU), a charity which helps the poorest children receive a good education.

It's a charity that Keith and Jeanette founded themselves, and it has already produced a lawyer, a doctor, a radio journalist, several business starters, carpenters, builders, and more.

At the age of 82, Keith said the walk is "going to be as big a challenge as I have ever faced".

He added: "The appeal seems to be catching people's imagination. So it's really down to me to produce the goods now."

Keith will set out on Friday 30 May, arriving home on Sunday 1 June.

Along the way, he'll be joined by friends and family.

Already, the fundraiser has amassed £745, and looks set to smash the target of £1,000.

Speaking of how the money will help, Keith said: "Girls' education is a priority to level the gender playing field.

"Our support for the Little Angels Childrens Home is crucial to give youngsters a secure base and provide a healthy diet and we have started a skills centre to give a meaningful future to girls and young women in the community who cannot gain a formal education."
