Stockport Council encourages more residents to consider becoming foster carers
By Alasdair Perry 11th May 2026
Stockport Council is encouraging more residents across the borough to consider becoming foster carers.
The call comes as part of Foster Care Fortnight (11-24 May), a national scheme designed to raise awareness around the positive impact of foster care.
The council is hosting events throughout the two weeks for residents to learn more about what fostering involves, including drop-in sessions at the Hat Works, at Merseyway Shopping Centre and at the town hall. There will also be online events - find out more about upcoming sessions here.
Foster carers look after children who cannot remain with their birth families.
They receive training, ongoing support and tax-free allowances, with extra money for clothing, birthdays and holidays.
They can provide anything from a new nights a week of support, through to a long-term home.
Carers must be over 21.
The council said foster carers "can make all the difference to a child's life in Stockport".
Anyone interested in becoming a foster carer can visit www.fosterforgm.com/stockport or call 0300 303 0321.
