Offerton's Golden Hind pub to undergo £1m 'traditional' redevelopment under new owners
By Alasdair Perry 11th May 2026
Much-loved Offerton pub the Golden Hind is returning after it was bought by pub operator Joseph Holt.
The well-established operator has pledged £1m to the refurbishment of the pub, promising a traditional redesign with open-fireplaces and 'characterful' furnishings.
Speaking to MEN, Joseph Holt CEO Richard Kershaw said: "We were thrilled to have the opportunity to acquire the former Golden Hind."
And, in a message shared by former Offerton councillor Helen Hibbert, Kershaw added: "We cannot wait to bring this fantastic community pub back to life to serve the great people of Offerton."
The update comes not long after it was announced last week that the pub - based at 5 Lisburne Lane - had been sold to an operator for 'continued use'.
Greene King, which previously ran the pub, unexpectedly closed it in November 2023 - until that point, it had been open for 56 years.
Sharing the news of the sale on social media, Lib Dem councillor Dan Oliver said he and the other councillors on the ward were 'really pleased'.
Joseph Holt's is a Manchester-based brewery founded in 1849. It has been owned by the same family for six generations.
They own 127 pubs across the North West, most of which are in Greater Manchester.
