Stockport Council has announced a £4 million boost to cost-of-living support.
The money comes as a grant from the Department for Work and Pensions - specifically as part of the Household Support Fund.
According to the UK Government: "The Household Support Fund was distributed by councils in England to directly help those who needed it most. The grant was distributed through small payments to support vulnerable households meet daily needs such as food, clothing, and utilities."
£2.5bn has been spent across the country thus far.
In Stockport, the £4m will go towards the following:
Family Support Vouchers
- A voucher worth £97.50 will be given to eligible families, which they can exchange for cash to support household bills. Families are eligible if they receive council tax support, free school meals, or housing benefits.
The Holiday Activity and Food Programme
- Some of the grant will go towards extending the Holiday Activity and Food Programme. This programme provides free childcare places during school holidays for families in receipt of school meals.
Supporting the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector
- 41 organisations from the VCFSE receive support from the Council - these organistations in turn use the funding to deliver activities ranging from cooking clubs, employment support, benefit assessments and even a 'social supermarket'.
