Countryside Partnerships have been awarded a £25 million contract to build a new care home at Woodford Green Village, near Poynton.

Plans were submitted for the new care home in spring 2022 by Anchor, England's largest provider of specialist housing and care for those later in life.

Now that Countryside has won the contract, it will construct 87 independent living apartments in a three-storey building, as well as 17 two-bed extra care bungalows as part of the extra care development.

Homes will be made available through a mixture of affordable rent and shared ownership programmes.

The scheme has been designed by Leeds-based architects Brewster Bye. As well as the 104 homes, there will also be a bistro, lounge, hair and beauty salon, guest suite, and an extensive car park.

Lisa Walters, head of commissioning at Anchor, said: "We're excited to bring this new community to the area where every resident will be able to enjoy well-designed, affordable homes as well as a host of onsite communal facilities that will enable residents to live independently, yet have support on hand, should they need it.

"Starting construction at this exciting new development is a key step in achieving Anchor's goals, to create more homes where people can love living in later life."

Ian Hilliker, managing director of Countryside Partnerships Merseyside and Cheshire West, said: "We believe it is vitally important to build quality homes for older people that meet their day-to-day needs.

"We have extensive experience delivering extra care developments around the UK, and we're very pleased to be working with Anchor, the leader in this sector, to provide this new care centre in Stockport."

The new development will bring the total number of new homes in the garden village scheme to 920.

Green spaces, a pub, and a primary school are also set to be developed in the village, built on the site of the old BAE Systems Woodford Aerodrome, which closed in 2011.
