Police make several town centre arrests in special operation

Police made several arrests in Stockport town centre this week as part of a special operation.
Officers were deployed to the town centre on Tuesday 6 May as part of Operation Rimini - the operation targets crime in the town centre and surrounding areas using measures such as increased patrols and plain-clothed officers.
Arrests on Tuesday were made on suspicion of assault, criminal damage and recall to prison - officers also recovered a suspected stolen car.
Also on the day, police carried out 'covert operations' in shops to help tackle potential shoplifting.
Police also used Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) to tackle shoplifting and other issues such as anti-social behaviour.
A CBO can prevent an offender from doing things such as entering certain shops, or it might require them to do something specific.
They are used to "target individuals who are repeat offenders and have been identified as often engaging in criminality in a specified area", Greater Manchester Police said.
There are currently 12 CBOs in place in Stockport town centre, six of which are a result of Operation Rimini.
