Fast food giant McDonald's has submitted plans to Stockport Council for a new restaurant, proposed for a vacant site north of Stanley Green Retail Park.
In the consultation document, McDonald's states that the new branch is expected to generate around 120 jobs – both part-time and full-time – as well as an estimated £60,000 in business rates each year, 50% of which will go to the council to support key local services.
The chain hopes that the new restaurant will "increase local food choice", and "deliver significant investment into Stockport, helping support the local economic recovery from Covid-19".
The new site will be in an existing commercial area, accessible via a slip road off the Stanley Road arm of the A34/Stanley Road roundabout.
Addressing concerns about disruption for neighbours, McDonald's said: "We recognise that whilst the site is part of a wider commercial area, there are residential properties nearby.
"We take our responsibility to our neighbours very seriously and have embedded a range of measures in our emerging proposals to ensure local residents are not adversely impacted by the scheme."
Such measures include ventilation control to reduce cooking odours, as well as boundary treatment, sensitive lighting to reduce spill, and at least three litter pickers to clean the surrounding area.
Regarding deliveries, McDonald's stated: "Deliveries will typically occur three times per week at pre-arranged times […]
"A Transport Assessment will be submitted as part of the planning application which will consider the impacts of the proposed development on the local road network."
The consultation document also emphasises the chain's commitment to sustainability.
With this in mind, 100% of the restaurant's power will come from renewable sources, including on-site solar panels.
There will also be charging points for electric vehicles in the car park.
The landscaping will involve planting flora to attract pollinators, along with biodiversity enhancements for birds and invertebrates.
The pre-application public consultation has ended. Once the planning application has been validated by the council, residents will be able to submit comments on the council's planning website.
