Plans have been submitted for a new Barclays banking hall in Stockport's Merseyway shopping centre.

The plans propose converting the existing YMCA shop on Arden Walk with a new interior, shopfront and signage.

The new Barclays is expected to be open from Monday to Saturday from 9am-5.30pm.

It would feature an ATM placed just outside, and a range of facilities inside: this includes private consulting offices, a waiting area, and staff rooms.

The banking hall would have around eight full-time employees, and five part-time.

As yet it is unclear when the new shop is expected to open should plans be approved.

Plans also do not mention what, if anything, will happen with Barclays' existing site on Bridge Street, a short stroll away from the Merseyway centre.

Stockport Nub News has approached Barclays for more information.

Stockport Council will decide on the plans by 27 January 2026.
