A retro train is due to wow Stopfordians in October as it proceeds through the borough.

The 'Rio Revival', a 'beautifully-restored' Intercity 125, will be calling at Stockport on its way to Manchester Piccadilly on Sunday 4 October.

The train will visit Stockport around 3.30pm, having travelled up from London Paddington.

Unfortunately, passengers won't be able to board at Stockport, as this will be the final stretch for the train on its long journey from the South.

Nonetheless, it offers a rare chance to see an Intercity 125 back on this route, promising a glimpse of decades gone by.

Trains enthusiasts at Heaton Chapel will also be able to catch the train not long after its trip over the viaduct.

The InterCity 125 was first introduced to Britain's railways in 1976. It was named after its top operational speed of 125 miles per hour.

It is regarded as a classic locomotive, made unique by its distinct wedge-shaped nose, devised by industrial designer Sir Kenneth Grange.
