New video shows further details of Greek Street bridge repair works

A new video released by Network Rail shows the full plans for repair works at the Greek Street bridge in Stockport / Edgeley.
The video - which can be viewed here - shows a timeline for the repair works and further details on what residents can expect.
The work will involve the dismantling of the existing Greek Street bridge and construction of a new bridge.
As part of this, the roundabout will be closed to traffic for one year from 31 March 2025. It will remain open to pedestrians in some places.
A number of diversion routes have been planned along the A6, Edgeley Road and Stockport Road to try and reduce disruption while the work takes place.
Several bus services will also be impacted including the 11, 309, 310, 312, 313 and 374, with alternative routes in place from Wellington Road via Booth Street and Longshut Lane West.

There will be road closures on Greek Street, Shaw Heath, and King Street West which connects to the roundabout. A similar road closure will be in place at Mercian Way.
A scaffold bridge is already in place nearby to divert important utility services such as electricity and water.
Pedestrian access will remain open on one arm of the roundabout - that is to say, you can walk around via the Armoury pub. Foot access for the church of Our Lady and the Apostles also remains open from Greek Street.
From 19-22 April, there will be some changes to rail services under the bridge as works take place to prepare the area for reconstruction in August.
In August itself, the team will demolish and replace the bridge. The railway will be closed for 21 days from the 2nd until the 23rd of that month.

Olivia Boland, Network Rail sponsor, said: “We’re replacing the Greek Street bridge in Stockport to keep the railway below and road users above safe for years to come.
“This video is a fantastic way to explain how complex the work to replace the bridge is. It brings to life this the true scale of the work required.
“We are very grateful for the cooperation of the local community during the work. I know that closing the roundabout for a year will disrupt the daily lives of the local community, and I am very sorry for the inconvenience this will cause.”
Stockport MP Navendu Mishra said: "I acknowledge the impact to the community will be significant during the closure of the roundabout, but the investment is welcomed and is critical for the long-term future of the railway bridge.
"Network Rail have held consultation events, and I encourage them to continue their engagement during the closure with residents, businesses and other stakeholders."

Cllr Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Parks, Highways, and Transport Services, said: "We know this closure will be disruptive for residents, commuters, and businesses, and we don’t underestimate the impact it will have. But this work is essential to keep both the road and railway, which is one of the country's busiest lines, safe and reliable for years to come.
"The video that has been produced shows the huge amount of work to do to replace this vital piece of infrastructure in our town centre.
"We’re working closely with Network Rail and TfGM to keep Stockport moving, with diversion routes in place to help ease the impact. We really appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while this vital project is carried out."
