Today (Thursday 2 May) is the day for local and mayoral elections.

If you're voting in person, you should check your polling card, which you should have received in the post if you're on the electoral register.

The polling card will also tell you which polling station you can vote at. However, you don't need to bring it, and you can still vote if you've lost your polling card.

Polling stations will be open until 10pm this evening. You can also check where your nearest station is on the Stockport Council website HERE.

Voters today will be electing a councillor and a Mayor of Greater Manchester.

Stockport is made up of 21 wards, each represented by three local councillors. Today, one seat in each ward is up for election.

As aforementioned, Combined Authority Mayoral elections will also be taking place - all other local authorities will be voting in this election, in addition to Stockport.

When you arrive at the polling station, you'll need to give your name and address, and to show your photo ID. This can be a passport, a driving licence, a blue badge, and more. Check the full list of eligible ID if you're unsure.

You'll then be given a ballot paper, on which you can cast your vote. Once again, voting closes at 10pm this evening.
