There is lots to do in Stockport over the next few days.

Throughout the weekend, and indeed the whole of this month (May) Greater Manchester Walking Festival is taking place - it means that, as part of the festival, a huge range of free guided walks are taking place across the borough. See HERE for a full list.

On Friday 3rd, Mura Ma Art Space opens its new exhibition 'Habitat' to the public, featuring works by artist Helen Thomas. Like the walking festival, you can catch this exhibition at other points over the next few weeks.

Also on Friday is the welcome return of the Garrick's Outside the box comedy nights, with another stellar quartet of comedians.

And on Sunday is the Alternative Market, which this time will take place at Stockport's Masonic Guildhall, featuring more than 60 traders and artists.

This event will last throughout May, and features more than 300 free guided walks taking place across the city region. 26 of them will be in Stockport borough.

The walks will encompass all kinds of different areas, from quaint orchards through to urban strolls. Expect walks in Brinnington, Bramhall, Woodley, Reddish, Offerton, the town centre, and more.

There is a similar range in length and terrain, although the walks are for the most part accessible to all.

Find a full rundown of the region-wide routes - including when and where they take place - on the walking festival website HERE.

Habitat - Helen Thomas exhibition | Mura Ma Art Space | Fri 3 - Sat 4 May | 11am-4.30pm

Mura Ma Art space is open from Thursday - Saturday, 11am-4.30pm.

An exhibition of works by artist Helen Thomas will open to the public on Friday 3rd May.

Helen Thomas is a contemporary British painter based in Wakefield, England. She graduated from Falmouth School of Art (BA Fine Art) and completed a year of postgraduate study with Turps Art School.

Helen is inspired by plants and their locales and her work specifically focuses on unplanned plants and organisms that grow haphazardly in carparks, on pavements, walls, edges of paths – the margins of our urban environment.
