Voting is open for this year's Stockport Children's Book Awards.

In an effort to get more youngsters reading across the borough, a shortlist of books is released, which children aged between 4 and 11 are encouraged to read and vote upon

As Stockport Council states, the aim is to showcase the best of new children's fictions, promote reading for pleasure, improve literacy, and create a 'reading community' in the borough.

The shortlist includes three categories, with three books each.

Voting closes on 25 May. The award ceremony itself will take place on 25 June; not only will the winning books be announced, but there will also be an award for the 'reader of the year'.

It's also a fantastic opportunity for children to meet the authors and illustrators; indeed, it's from this kind of thing that inspiration comes in droves!
