A man has been sentenced for 'fronting' a Bramhall business on behalf of a disqualified director.
Mark Tibbott was director in name only at Cheshire Window Outlet on Hall Moss Lane. The business was run and managed by Steven Anthony Wright, who was disqualified as a company director.
The Trading Standards Service at Stockport Council began an investigation into the business, following complaints from customers that they had paid upfront for windows and doors which were never supplied.
As Stockport Council reports: "Tibbott was charged with two offences of aiding and abetting a disqualified director to run a limited company in contravention of a director disqualification order.
"Tibbott initially failed to appear at several hearings at Manchester Crown Court at Minshull Street and a warrant was issued for his arrest."
Mr Tibbott eventually handed himself in and appeared at Manchester Crown Court in July last year, pleading guilty to the offences.
Whilst Mr Tibbott himself did not benefit financially, the judge found that his actions had allowed Mr Wright to do so.
As the council states: "Tibbott was sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonment for each offence, to run concurrently, suspended for one year. He was also ordered to complete rehabilitation activity and to pay the statutory surcharge."
Proceedings were also brought against Mr Wright. The court was told that he and his wife have failed to appear at several hearings.
Mark Glynn, Director of Place Management at Stockport Council, said: "I hope this case sends a clear message that there is no place in Stockport for rogue traders.
"We will take action and put you before the courts, no matter how long it takes.
"Traders who flout the law ruin lives and undermine legitimate businesses."
