A housing firm has received 'serious reports of violence' and anti-social behaviour (ASB) in its homes over the past year.
A report from Stockport Homes has revealed that the company dealt with a total of 1,834 incidents of ASB in its accommodation across the borough last year, down from 1,943 in 2021/22.
The firm manages more than 12,000 properties around Stockport and is responsible for running the council's housing stock.
Stockport Homes is currently going through an independent review on its housing model, which could bring major changes to social homes in the borough.
More than 300 reports of ASB were recorded in the company's 27 blocks which have three or more floors, with problems ranging from lifestyle clashes to violent confrontation.
The highest number of ASB reports in blocks were in Lincoln Towers where there were 38 incidents last year, with an average of 12 reports for each of the block buildings.
Stockport Homes said the overall number of reports decreasing is a sign that the situation is improving.
Responding to the problems in the company's blocks, the firm's Safer Neighbourhoods team issued one community protection notice over the past year, with 34 warnings, and three possession, closure, or demotion of tenancy orders for the most serious cases.
But Edgeley councillor Matt Wynne said there have been "concerns over time" about how the properties are managed.
Speaking at a town hall meeting earlier this month, he highlighted examples of the problems residents are facing.
He added: "We've had ASB reported by elderly and vulnerable tenants for three consecutive nights, asked for security and police attendance, and contradictory evidence on why it wasn't possible."
A company official told Mr Wynne that they are "acutely aware" of the issues in the block, and that they have regular contact with residents and councillors.
A Stockport Homes Group (SHG) spokesperson said making its housing and communities safe is "at the heart" of its work.
They added: "We are pleased that there was a reduction in ASB reports last year, with our team responding to 1,834 reports of anti-social behaviour (ASB) across the borough, reflecting a reduction in incidents and showing that our collaborative efforts are making a difference.
"We take the safety of our residents very seriously. Our Safer Neighbourhoods team regularly attends resident meetings in Stockport, allowing us to hear concerns directly and provide reassurance.
"Quarterly meetings with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) help us share information and work together on targeting ongoing issues.
"SHG are also a key partner in the One Safer Stockport partnership, which joins together many public and voluntary organisations. When early interventions are not enough, we take appropriate enforcement action.
"We encourage everyone to report complaints and concerns and to make this easier, we've provided multiple ways to do so, whether it's through our online forms, mobile apps, a phone call, or in-person.
"By offering multiple ways to report, we ensure incidents are logged and addressed swiftly, helping build stronger, safer neighbourhoods."
