Police have implemented a dispersal order around Stockport Interchange until 6.30pm tomorrow (Wednesday 23 October).
A section 35 dispersal order means that police have extra powers to disperse individuals who are causing (or are likely to cause) harassment.
It comes following increased anti-social behaviour in the area. Yesterday evening (Monday 21 October) police responded to large gatherings of youths wearing balaclavas who were 'disturbing patrons of the transport hub'.
The order encompasses the interchange and large swathes of the town centre - the boundaries from the north clockwise are: Great Egerton Street, Great Underbank, Petersgate, Piccadilly, Greek Steet, and King Street West.
A statement from Greater Manchester Police reads: "A S35 Dispersal Order has been authorised in the area surrounding Bus Station for 48 hours due to an increase in anti-social behaviour.
"Officers [responded] to large gatherings of youths wearing balaclavas and disturbing patrons of the transport hub.
"Under an S35 order, police officers have extra powers to disperse individuals or groups causing, or likely to cause, harassment, alarm, or distress to others.
"The S35 will be in place [...] on St Petersgate, Merseyway Shopping Centre, Redrock, bordering Great Egerton Street and George Street, Grand Central, Stockport Interchange Bus Station and Wellington Street."
