Electricity North West will spend £70,000 upgrading Heaton Chapel's power network next week, protecting electrical supply for 1,500 homes in the area.
Earlier in the month, 150 metres of cable were upgraded following power cuts, however engineers have since discovered that a further upgrade is required on an additional stretch of cable.
Starting tomorrow (26 May), engineers will lay 250 metres of underground cables on Manchester Road, with temporary traffic lights due to be set up.
David Jones, who is overseeing the work in Heaton Chapel for Electricity North West, said: "The additional work taking place is necessary for the residents of Heaton Chapel.
"After completing the recent cable replacement on Manchester Road, testing revealed further faults on another stretch of cable, so we want to act now to prevent power cuts in the future.
"The work taking place will see us invest another £70,000 and as well as replacing the cables, we'll also be installing more ducts so if more cables are needed in the future, disruption can be kept to a minimum.
"I want to thank residents for their patience and support. Phase one of the project went smoothly and we'll do everything we can to ensure phase two follows the same path."
No power cuts are expected whilst the work is taking place.
