For a week in September, residents in Heald Green and beyond will be able to enjoy the likes of raffles, live music, group meals, organised walks, and more.
And it will all be for a good cause. 'Heald Blue' will run from Monday 16 to Sunday 22 September, and aims to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer research.
It is a spiritual successor to last year's 'Heald Pink' event, a fundraising project for the Prevent charity, in which Heald Green village raised almost £5,000.
Heald Blue will be organised by Wendy Morris, herself an experienced fundraiser, who recently raised £1,000 for Prevent with her homemade champagne flutes.
The itinerary for the week in September is as follows:
- Monday 16th - Heald Green turns into Heald Blue, as schools and businesses all wear blue clothes.
- Tuesday 17th - Curry night at the Sangam, with bingo and a raffle and a speech from Cllr Carole McCann, who has also been helping to organise the Heald Blue project.
- Wednesday 18th - Taster sessions at Slimming World.
- Thursday 19th - free physiotherapy for men with prostate cancer - or who have undergone treatment for the disease - with Richard Higgs, local physiotherapist.
- Friday 20th - Dinner evening at the Pinewood Hotel, Handforth - included is a meal, plus speeches from ex-City manager Brian Horton, and Tony Collier, former Altrincham Mayor.
- Saturday 21st - a massive raffle at the Club Hub in Heald Green, featuring some top prizes: two return flights from Manchester Airport to Newquay; day trip to Liverpool with Beatles museum tickets; £50 voucher for the Griffin in Heald Green; and many more.
- Sunday 22nd - A charity walk led by Northenden Pipe Band (who have offered to play for free!), finishing up at The Griffin in Heald Green. At The Griffin will be DJs, a bouncy castle, and a hog roast.
Organiser Wendy said: "I cannot thank everyone enough for all their kindness and support. I would not have been able to do as much as I have done so far if it wasn't for all the kindness of everyone that has got involved.
"The support has been overwhelming. I hope I do the village proud. I would love to double the amount of money that we raised last year."
