Stockport NHS Trust has picked up five separate shortlists for a 'major' national health awards ceremony.
Staff and teams at the trust (which runs Stepping Hill Hospital and other NHS services in Stockport) have been nominated as finalists in five separate categories in the Health Service Journal Patient Safety Awards.
Each nomination is for a different project which enhances patient safety - they are as follows:
- The paediatrics team has boosted its care for young people experiencing mental health crises with a new project - they have therefore earned a shortlist in the 'Patient Safety Education and Training' category.
- The surgical theatre team have been helping to improve productivity in the operating theatre, in a project which aims to tackle the backlog from the Covid-19 pandemic - they are consequently finalists in the 'Patient Safety in Elective Recovery' award.
- The urology team are also finalists in the 'Patient Safety in Elective Recovery' category, for their project of ensuring faster outpatient appointments for patients.
- The endoscopy team, meanwhile, have been shortlisted in the 'Quality Improvement Initiative of the Year' category for their various measures to improve efficiency, productivity and patient experience. This has not only reduced backlog, but has made diagnoses faster, with potentially life-saving consequences.
- And finally, the trust's people directorate has been shortlisted for its work in providing gynaecology services for colleagues who are experiencing the menopause. They will represent Stockport in the 'Staff Health and Wellbeing Initiative of the Year' category.
Karen James OBE, chief executive for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust said: "These initiatives show we're taking innovative action across our many different services to ensure the best possible standards of patient safety. It's fantastic to see these efforts being recognised by the HSJ Safety Awards by being shortlisted five times, which is an exceptional achievement for everyone involved.
"I'd like to wish our colleagues all the best in each of their categories."
The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony in Manchester on 16 September, 2024.
