Stockport Council is seeking opinions from residents to help guide how the borough will change over the next 15 years.

The council has today (6 November) launched a public consultation on its draft local plan - a legal document which will guide development of homes and jobs in the borough in the future.

The consultation means residents will be able to read the draft plan and share their views with the council.

In its current draft form, the local plan proposes using mostly brownfield land for new developments in the borough.

However, the plan acknowledges that brownfield land is not enough to meet the government's housing targets; it therefore proposes using some 'grey belt' land - that is to say, poorer quality parts of the Green Belt.

Whilst this means that some designated Green Belt land could be used for development, the draft plan in its current state guarantees that 40 percent of the borough would remain designated Green Belt.

The plan remains in draft stages and is subject to change, in part from suggestions made during this consultation which runs until 21 December 2025.

A Stockport Council spokesperson said: "The consultation is a chance for you to read the draft Local Plan, review the draft proposals in detail, and tell us what you think.

"Your feedback will be used to shape the next version of the Local Plan before it is submitted to the Government for review.

"We want to hear what works, what doesn't, and where alternative options and changes could be made, especially from those who live, work, study or run businesses in Stockport."
