Greater Manchester to get 176 new frontline police officers

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) will be introducing 176 new frontline officers.
GMP has 670 existing frontline officers - the extra 176 will be an increase of around 25 percent.
They'll serve across GMP's 10 districts, including Stockport.
The officers will be funded by the UK Home Office - a GMP spokesperson "welcomed the Government's pledge for stronger and safer streets".
Assistant Chief Constable Matthew Boyle similarly said the extra officers will help the force "proactively fight crime and bring more offenders to justice".

Assistant Chief Constable Boyle added: "Our problem-solving approach to neighbourhood policing is seeing us properly tackle the issues that matter most to the public, with a focus on working with local communities and partners to keep our streets safe.
"Ensuring our local policing teams are dedicated to making our public spaces be safe and feel safe for those who live, work, and visit our city-region is a top priority.
"We are continuing to ensure we are engaging with our communities, and they know how to engage with us, so we can work together to keep preventing crime."
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham also said: "This new commitment from the Government is a clear and welcome sign that GMP's groundbreaking work is understood and valued. The extra funding for more officers will support the force to build on the strong foundations it has laid and go even further in rooting out crime and anti-social behaviour in all parts of Greater Manchester.
"GMP has led the way in prioritising neighbourhood policing with named teams in place across our city-region. This approach has brought about real reductions in neighbourhood crime, such as burglary, and is helping to make our communities feel safer."
