A fundraiser has been set up for the man who stopped an alleged dangerous driver in Hazel Grove last week. So far it has raised £1,684.

A man has subsequently appeared in court following the initial incident that happened on Buxton Road when a vehicle mounted the pavement and collided with a pedestrian near to the junction of Fence Street.

The pedestrian - 77-year-old Robert Palmer - was taken to hospital but later died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

The driver, Tom Ferguson, has been charged with offences including causing death by dangerous driving; causing death while disqualified; causing death while uninsured; and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He appeared in court on Saturday, 11 November.

The offending vehicle was brought to a stop by a second vehicle. The driver of this second vehicle, James Johnson, says he saw the defendant driving off after the collision and decided to intervene, causing a collision that brought the vehicle driven by Ferguson to a halt.

Mr Johnson has since set up a fundraiser to cover the damage costs sustained during the collision.
