Council opens public consultation on cycle and bus lanes around ‘A6 corridor’
Stockport Council is consulting the public on changes to the 'A6 corridor', including cycle routes, crossings, and more.
The aim of the proposals is to "make it easier to walk, wheel and cycle" in the designated area, which comprises a stretch of the A6 (from the Manchester boundary to Stockport town centre), and the roads and streets around it.
The council is working alongside Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) on the proposals, which include a number of changes; the general aim being to "make the roads safer, reduce bus journey times, improve access to bus stops, [and] provide better crossings".
These routes would follow designated 'quiet roads', which would have 20mph speed limits to make them more conducive to cycling, walking, and outdoor play.
On the A6 itself, the proposals also include new bus lanes, as well as improvements to junctions, crossings, and bus stops.
The public consultation will help inform the proposals, and runs until Sunday 24th March.
As part of the consultation, residents are asked to what extent they agree with various aspects of the proposals, and are also given the opportunity to write more detailed feedback.
