Stockport Council has announced that Bramhall High School will be closed today (10 November) after reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) was found in parts of the building.

The council carried out an inspection at the school on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9, in line with new government guidance on RAAC, and discovered the concrete in 'some parts' of the building.

Stockport Council said in a statement: "This was a difficult decision to take, but the safety of staff and pupils is our paramount concern.

"We are working closely with the school to make sure alternative arrangements are up and running as soon as possible.

"We also continue to carry out inspections across the borough so we can be assured about the condition of the roof material and that RAAC is not present."

The council says it is continuing to assess buildings across the borough. This closure comes not long after St Thomas' CE Primary in the town centre was closed, also due to RAAC.
