Gatley's annual festival will unfortunately not take place this year.

The event committee suggested that their small team was finding it difficult to manage the festival, due to increasing costs and insufficient volunteers.

In a statement, the organisers themselves said: "We have made no secret of the fact that the future of the festival was in jeopardy if we were not able to recruit more people to join the committee or help out with organisation."

In the same statement, the committee said that this could be the first time in the festival's 100-year history that such a cancellation has taken place, apart from the Covid and war years.

The Gatley Festival traditionally runs every summer, and features stalls, live performers, a parade, and more. Last year's 100-year anniversary took place on 2 July.

The committee said that although the event will be 'rested' for 2024, this does not signal a permanent end to the festival.

The organisers will revisit plans for the festival next year, subject to new ideas, support, volunteers, and more.
