Work continues on 202 new apartments in Edgeley, on the old Springmount Mill / Brinskway site.

Once finished, the site will comprise three apartment buildings. In the words of the developer, the core aim is for the flats to be 'attractive and affordable'.

The developer ostensibly aims to "provide a good quality product at a far better value than in other areas of Greater Manchester by providing higher than average standards".

The buildings will range from six to eight stories, and will boast balconies and spacious, airy interiors.

Multi-level parking will also be in place, with vehicle access via secured gateways.

Given that the development occupies a historic site, with a series of historical mill buildings, the aim was to retain as much of these buildings as possible.

"However", the planning statement says, "due to fire and repeated vandalism the mill was demolished on safety grounds. The choice of brickwork and elevational treatment makes reference to its industrial heritage, especially along Brinksway."

The site was selected by the developer as an 'ideal place' to develop a private rental scheme.

The developer is indeed optimistic about Stockport as a whole, arguing that its diverse economy, above average educational level, and large workforce make ideal conditions for a development such as this.

Planning permission for a revised version of the apartments was granted by Stockport Council in August of this year.
