Residents of Stockport borough are spoiled for choice when it comes to things to do this weekend.

Running throughout the entire weekend will be the Town of Culture weekender. Expect a wealth of free events, from talks to parades, walking trails to live music, and everything in between.

Further still, Spotlight on Reddish - 30 special events spanning two weeks - kicks off on 23 March also.

And, if that isn't enough, a range of other events will continue to take place across the borough.

From Thursday to Saturday, Stopfordians have their last chance to catch two pieces of local culture - an exhibition at Mura Ma Art Space, and a showing of Things I Know to be True at The Garrick Theatre. Both end their runs on Saturday 23rd.

Sunday will be similarly busy. On the one hand you can catch Rave Cadets at Bask, a family-friendly rave for youngsters; or, if you're looking for something a bit more low-key, you can catch the Rare Finds flea market at The Space in Stockport town centre.

Stockport's tenure as Greater Manchester Town of Culture ends this year. But, rest assured, it will go out with a bang - a bang shaped like a weekend celebration featuring 50 different events.

The Town of Culture Weekender festival takes place from 23-24 March, and is described as "a fun-packed weekend of free cultural festivities and free access to must-visit venues".

Music, family activities, and shows will take place at 25 different locations across the town centre, including the rooftop park at the interchange, which will have opened by that date.

A lineup of events has now been officially announced. Similar to the Spectacular Sunday event in November last year, visitors can expect a range of carnival-esque shows, such as a parade of giant animal puppets, or a grandpa comedy duo.

THING I KNOW TO BE TRUE is about love in its many forms; love that can be comforting and supportive, or suffocating and destructive. And is it possible to love too much? (Image via Stockport Garrick)

An insightful, warm and eloquent portrayal of family relationships.

Bob and Fran have invested all their hopes in the next generation, working hard to give their children the opportunities they never had. Whilst Bob and Fran hope to sit back and smell the roses, their adult children are all at a point of crisis and struggle to define themselves beyond their parents' love and expectations.

What do generations owe each other and why do we often hurt those we love the most?
