Stockport Council is inviting residents to have their say on what the future of Stockport should look like.

In a new public consultation, locals are asked for their views on the 'Town Centre East' regeneration plans, which involve 4,000 new homes, plus green spaces, shops, and more.

Residents are also being asked about the expansion of the Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC), which will help deliver these plans and other projects elsewhere in the town centre.

Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) was set up in 2019 to lead the £1bn transformation of the town, and since then has delivered major projects including the transport interchange, Viaduct Park, and 1,200 new homes completed or currently being built.

In all, there are plans for a total of 8,000 new homes built over the next 15 years, as well as a new secondary school and hospital.

People can give feedback in a range of different ways.

The main option is an online survey, where participants are asked whether they agree or disagree with parts of the plan, with the opportunity to provide further comment.

The survey closes on Monday 26 June.

Residents can also give feedback in person at a number of drop-in events across the borough. Those events are:

  • Foodie Friday on Friday 30th May
  • Makers Market on Saturday 14th June
  • Merseyway Shopping Centre (outside Specsavers) on Thursday 19th June (11am-3pm)

Cllr Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said: "Stockport is a town on the move—and we're just getting started. We've already made huge progress in Town Centre West, and now we're ready to bring that same ambition to the east.

"This is about more than housing—it's about creating greener spaces, stronger communities, and a town centre that works for everyone. With a focus on sustainability, wellbeing, and inclusive growth, we're building a place where people want to live, work and thrive."

Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, added: "The first five years of Stockport's Mayoral Development Corporation show what's possible when we put place and people first. Together, we've transformed Town Centre West—delivering thousands of new homes, a state-of-the-art transport interchange, vibrant commercial spaces and essential social infrastructure.

"But we're just getting started. Now, we're asking residents to help shape the future of Town Centre East. This is your chance to have a real say in how your town grows—ensuring that the next phase of regeneration reflects the needs, values and ambitions of the whole community."

Rhian Davitt-Jones, Director at CBRE, said the plans "will help to unlock thousands of new high-quality homes, the creation of exemplar and sustainable neighbourhoods and deliver true place-making benefits for the town centre and borough as a whole."
