Krazy Races will make its second appearance in Stockport this year, and it looks to be as big a spectacle as ever.

This year's soapbox race will take place in around two weeks' time on Sunday 28 July. There are as many as 15,000-20,000 visitors expected.

Just like last year, the event will see teams of racers speed down from St Peter's Square, past the Plaza building and onto Mersey Square, dodging obstacles and navigating sharp turns along the way. All of it is done with the aim of raising money for charity.

Further details of the event were announced at a talk at Robinson's Brewery today (Friday 15 March) (Image - Alasdair Perry)

The organisers of the event outlined details of this year's race at Robinson's Brewery today (15 March). A handful of the racing teams were also present, showing a mixture of excitement and trepidation!

25 teams of racers have been confirmed thus far - however, the event has the potential for 40, so there are 15 places still available if you'd like to take part! Teams will not only need to design a working soapbox, but they will also get points for performance and design.

Teams are allowed up to five members, including a driver aged over 18. Local businesses have entered some teams, as have some businesses from further afield. Others are taking part just to raise money for charity and to have some fun along the way.

The headline charities this year are St Ann's Hospice in Heald Green, and The Christie in Withington.

Last year, the event in Stockport raised £20,000, and a further £80,000 in similar events across the country.

You can find more information and an entry form HERE. Krazy Races points out that unfortunately, due to popular demand, filling in the form will not guarantee a start in next year's race.

Entry prices range from £150 to £250, depending on how applicants wish to enter.
