The Liberal Democrats have singled out two Stockport constituencies as a 'main focus' in the upcoming general election.
Hazel Grove and Cheadle were identified as 'key battleground seats' for Greater Manchester at the Lib Dem North West conference.
With swings of just 5% needed to change the outcome in the two seats, both constituencies will be critical in determining the outcome of a general election in around one year's time.
The current incumbents are both Conservative - Mary Robinson (Cheadle) and William Wragg (Hazel Grove).
The voting results from the 2019 election were as follows:
Cheadle
- Mary Robinson (Con) - 25,694
- Tom Morrison (Lib Dem) - 23,358
- Zahid Chauhan (Lab) - 6,851
Hazel Grove
- William Wragg (Con - 21,592
- Lisa Smart (Lib Dem) - 17,169
- Tony Wislon (Lab) - 5,508
Contesting the Hazel Grove seat this year for the Conservatives is Paul Athans, after incumbent MP William Wragg announced he would not be standing in the next election. Lisa Smart, meanwhile, will contest the seat for the Lib Dems.
In Cheadle, Tom Morrison will represent the Lib Dems against Mary Robinson MP.
