Two arrests made and seven bikes seized as Brinnington crime crackdown continues

Police have seized seven motorbikes and made two arrests in Brinnington as part of a crime crackdown.
It comes as part of 'Operation Vulcan', a period of intensified police activity and investigation in the area launched by Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
Officers were patrolling Brinnington on Saturday (21 March), when they discovered a man aged 18 who was riding a moped in a dangerous manner. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving with no insurance and driving while disqualified.
Later that day, a 16-year-old boy was stopped and found to be riding a moped without registration plates or a helmet. He too was arrested, in this case on suspicion of driving while disqualified and driving with no insurance.
On Sunday, in a similar patrol, police spotted a man in his 30s riding an electric as he attempted to avoid police and make off from officers approaching on foot. He was stopped and the bike was seized after it was found to not be legal for road use.
Similar illegal bikes were found across the area, including one being ridden by a 13-year-old and another which had been seen several times making off from police the day before.
Inspector Dan Cullum, from the Operation Vulcan team, said: "The team has been working hard to tackle anti-social behaviour issues and the use of illegal bikes on the roads and pavements of Brinnington. The community have told us this is one of the biggest issues affecting them and we have been acting on it.
"Operation Vulcan has been in the area for a month and part of what we do is tackle anti-social behaviour, as well as other criminality affecting residents.
"We have been engaging with the community and taking action to tackle issues that matter the most. I urge anyone within the area to please get in touch with us if they have any issues."
The specialist Operation Vulcan police team has been on the ground since mid-February.
They have previous experience working in Derker, Piccadilly Gardens, and Cheetham Hill.
They have been carrying out "a sustained campaign of activity", ranging from arrests and early-morning search warrants through to community engagement days.
The team aims to tackle criminality head-on, while 'laying foundations' to keep the crime rate lower in the future.
