Travellers moved on from field in Hazel Grove

On Tuesday, Chester Road in Hazel Grove was the site of a standoff between a group of travellers and the police.
The group drove several caravans onto the field at around 1:30pm, after allegedly dragging a log that was being used as a barrier out of the way. It is believed to be the same group that were on Flowery Fields in Woodsmoor on Saturday 5 July
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) then blocked access to the field with multiple vehicles, while more travellers parked nearby on Chester Road and Vaudrey Drive, and others drove up and down Chester Road.
Liberal Democrat councillor for Norbury and Woodsmoor, Dominic Hardwick, was also in attendance with the police, and was urging them to use their section 60c powers to move the travellers from the site.
At around 5:30pm, the travellers that had incurred onto the field left with their caravans. The travellers then incurred on Cheviot Road play area on the Dean Moor Road estate.

They were then served with a section 60c notice from Greater Manchester Police ordering them to leave the site, and had left before the deadline of 7pm yesterday (Thursday 10 July).
According to one commenter on the Norbury and Woodsmoor Liberal Democrats Facebook page, the travellers have since moved to near Wythenshawe.
A spokesperson for Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council told us: "We were made aware of an unauthorised encampment near Flowery Fields in Hazel Grove.
"The council worked in partnership with GMP and took action to move the group off the site. Our teams are now reviewing the condition and security of the site, and a nearby site near Chester Road.
"We continue to work with GMP and partners and the traveller community to manage unauthorised encampments swiftly and appropriately, and to protect public spaces across the borough."
GMP were approached for comment.
