On Armistice Day (11 November), and Remembrance Sunday (12 November), Stockport residents can find a range of commemorative events taking place across the borough.

Armistice Day

  • Stockport town centre | At 11am, the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Graham Greenhalgh, will observe the silence on the steps of Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery, Wellington Road South. The gallery will be open from 10am for people to pay their respects.
  • Hazel Grove | A parade will leave Norbury Church, London Road, at 2.40pm. It will arrive at Remembrance Garden at 3pm.

Remembrance Sunday

The Mayor of Stockport, Cllr Graham Greenhalgh, will lead the borough in paying respects, outside the War Memorial Art Gallery. A two-minute silence will be observed from precisely 11am.

The Mayor said: "On Sunday 12 November 2023, at 11am, we will remember the sacrifice of Stopfordians who left to protect us from the tyranny of others.

"Whether they came home victorious or never returned, they rightly deserve this time to be remembered and equally their families who endured the heartache.

If you can be at the Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery on Wellington Road for the service, please do make you way there. If not, please take a moment at 11am to consider these words of the Kohima Epitaph:

'Tell Them of Us and Say, For Your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today.'"
