A Stockport Council by-election in the Bramhall South & Woodford ward is taking place today (Thursday 31 October).

It comes after Lib Dem councillor Ian Powney stepped down on health grounds.

The current makeup of the 63 council seats, factoring in the vacancy, is as follows:

  • Lib Dem (29)
  • Labour (23)
  • Edgeley Community Association (3)
  • Green (3)
  • Independent Ratepayers (3)
  • Independent (1)
  • VACANT (1)

The candidates standing are as follows:

  • Peter Crossen - Conservative
  • Andrew Dearden - Green Party
  • Sandeep Kashyap - Liberal Democrats
  • John Kelly - Reform UK
  • Jake Thomas - Labour

Residents of these wards can cast their votes from 7am - 10pm on Thursday 17 October. You can find your nearest polling station HERE.
