Stockywood - it's an epithet which you may well have heard before, referring to Stockport's apparent affinity with the silver screen.
The name has stuck for a reason - not only has the borough served as filming location for a huge range of productions, it boasts a strong cultural and artistic scene of its own.
This 'scene' will be celebrated at an upcoming film festival at the Garrick Theatre in Stockport town centre, from 27-28 April 2024.
This event invites local filmmakers to submit their short films to be shown in screenings throughout the weekend.
What's more, special guest speakers will be hosting a series of talks sharing their knowledge and experience.
It represents an excellent opportunity for local creatives not just to share their work, but also to chat with other filmmakers, and pick up some inspiration.
This will be the first event of its kind at The Garrick. Who knows? Perhaps Stockywood will develop an arthouse film school to complement its already stellar reputation as a filming location…
The deadline for film submissions is March 15.
