Plans for new housing development in Gatley to be discussed at planning committee

The develop would convert the former Gatley golf club course into nearly 300 new homes - the clubhouse would remain to be converted to a 'community hub' (Images via planning document)

Plans to build 278 new homes on the site of a former golf club in Gatley will go to the Stockport Council Planning & Highways Regulation Committee on Thursday 14 December.

The housing development off Styal Road would aim to create a range of dwellings, around half of which would be affordable homes.

The committee is recommended to grant authority to the deputy chief executive, who will determine the outcome of the application.

The applicant claims that residents of the new site would be able to access everything they need within 20 minutes. "This will contribute towards the creation of a healthy, active and sustainable community", they say, and will "keep jobs and money local".

The 10-acre plot at Kenwood Point would be home to a £350m, 25,900sqm data centre. According to developer Kao Data, the new building off Kenwood Road would house some of the UK's 'most advanced computing technology'.

The three-storey centre would be used to house data storage equipment. Data processing spaces are also planned.

The centre would house sensitive 'mission-critical' data and will require strict security measures, including guards, CCTV and biometric access control system.

The Giving Tree scheme was spearheaded by Merseyway Central Manager Victoria Nichol 2018. Hearing the devastating stories from the people they were supporting brought home to Victoria just how tough times were for children.

"There would be children not getting anything for Christmas," Victoria said, "and if they did get anything through food banks or children's charities, they might not get what they wanted on their Christmas list."

The Giving Tree scheme was launched from this foundation, and has enjoyed an impressive run, with donations steadily increasing for each of its five existing years.

The scheme revolves around a simple yet powerful concept: tags containing a child or person's age, gender, and a wish from their Christmas list are placed on trees around the Stockport borough.
